EDF and EGCO buy up Nam Theun 2 shares from Ital-Thai

Authorities in Khammouane Province, Laos, have pledged to increase protection of fish stocks in the Nakai Reservoir in order to boost long-term livelihoods and conservation in the area.

The Nam Theun 2 Power Company has transferred ownership of over US$102 million of assets, including community services, roads and power lines, to the Lao government following the start of commercial operations at the hydroelectricity plant.

The health of people on the Nakai Plateau in Khammouane province, Laos, is improving following the resettlement programme instituted for the Nam Theun 2 Hydroelectric Project. Results were discussed at an international workshop in June 2010.

The Lao government takes over the activities of the Nakai Elephant Programme, supported by the Nam Theun 2 Power Company.
