Romania's construction industry was more severely affected than any other in Central Europe by the global downturn in 2009.

Last year, although the Czech construction market seemed to be heading for a major contraction, the industry showed some signs of life and the value of the market eventually remained almost unchanged in comparison with the preceding year.

After serious reverses last year, growth in the Slovak construction industry should resume in the next few quarters, partly because of low base effects and an expected increase in the number of large construction contracts.
