Books-A-Million and the Early Learning Coalition of Southwest Florida have teamed up to host a fundraiser and book drive on November 21st benefiting the Literacy Buddies program.

The Early Learning Coalition of Southwest Florida has partnered with the Barnes & Noble Booksellers of Fort Myers, Naples and Estero to collect books for ELC’s Literacy Buddies Program.

The Early Learning Coalition of SWFL seeks volunteers as buddies for their 2011-2012 Literacy Buddy Program, a reading program for young children. 1,348 children were matched last year; 1,500 children are expected to participate this year.

More than 1,300 volunteers were matched with area children in an effort to increase early literacy in Southwest Florida. The program, Literacy Buddies, was developed and is coordinated by the Early Learning Coalition of Southwest Florida.

The Words, Words, Words initiative is an effort to spread the message to all parents, and especially low income parents, about the need to speak and engage their children, from birth, to increase their success in school.
