Ayrshire, Scotland, 22 March 2013--Prize money for Scotland’s richest race meeting - the Coral Scottish Grand National Festival at Ayr Racecourse - has been given a boost of more than £100,000 to £507,000.

Corks were popping at Ayr Racecourse when it was announced that the track had been voted Racecourse of the Year 2011 for Scotland and the North East by The Racegoers Club.

Merigo, the first Scottish trained horse to win the Coral Scottish Grand National for 28 years when it triumphed at Ayr Racecourse last April, will defend his crown at the Craigie track next week.

Jumps horse racing returns to Ayr Racecourse on Wednesday 1 December with a seven race card due off at 12.20pm. The winter action continues through until the showpiece of the 2010/11 season: the Coral Scottish Grand National Festival on 15/16 April..

Ayr Racecourse has appointed Emma Marley as Clerk of the Course. Emma will assume her duties from early May.

The national season continues this Saturday, and this time it’s the turn of Scotland, as they host their biggest race day on their racing calendar.
