For National Women’s History Month, the Randolph Library presents a special art exhibit and art talk on truth, tolerance, hope and social change by Soraida Martinez, creator of Verdadism.

Soraida, New York-born internationally-known artist, exhibits at the Verdadism Art Gallery new series of drawings that confronts stereotypes. These original hand-drawn ink drawings are based on the 1992 Verdadism painting, "Puerto Rican Stereotype."

Since 1992, artist/author/social advocate Soraida has created didactic art that addresses racism, sexism, stereotyping, interracial relationships and the social issues that only now are being addressed in American society.

For over 15 years now, artist and activist, Soraida Martinez, has been raising awareness of racism, sexism, stereotyping and other social issues that until recently have been considered too taboo to be discussed in mainstream American society.

From September 5 until September 27, 2007, the socially conscious art of Soraida Martinez, known for Verdadism since 1992, will be featured at Cecil College’s Elkton Station Gallery “World Arts: Latin Legacies” exhibition in Elkton, Maryland.
