| walk for als News+ XML/RSSBy Bobbi Greenberg ALS Canada is fortunate to have many individuals, groups and companies offer their support to aid the organization in obtaining its goals. This year, ALS Canada recognizes some outstanding contributions from its top national sponsors. By ALS Society of Ontario Maurice Irvine's ALS diagnosis devastated his family, but has also brought them closer together. His son, Matthew, is helping to keep hope alive by fundraising for the Kingston WALK for ALS, to be held June 27 at Lake Ontario Park. By ALS Society of Ontario The Ritsma family of Tavistock, ON have lost six relatives to ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease. They participate in the annual Stratford WALK for ALS to raise funds and awareness for an illness that has had such a pervasive affect on their lives. By ALS Society of Ontario Joan Bradnam lost her sister to ALS three years ago. She's since become a fixture in the Niagara ALS community, where she is a support services volunteer. Joan also fundraises and will be taking part in the Niagara Falls WALK for ALS on June 20. By Bobbi Greenberg June is ALS Awareness Month in Canada. Various events to be held across Canada to promote awareness of the disease and encourage financial support for research. By ALS Society of Ontario This is the 9th year the WALK for ALS is being held in Canada. Toronto's John Pollock, who lost his wife, Mary, to ALS, introduced the walk to Canada. The Pollock family has watched the walk grow into the biggest annual fundraiser for ALS. By ALS Society of Ontario The Mississauga WALK for ALS takes place June 13 at J.C. Saddington Park. The walk raises funds for equipment, support services and research into a cure. Thousands take part across Ontario, including the Song-Yee family, which copes daily with ALS. By ALS Society of Ontario The Toronto WALK for ALS takes place June 6 at Wilket Creek Park. The walk raises funds for equipment, support services and research into a cure. Thousands take part across Ontario, including the Baldi family of Scarborough. By ALS Society of Ontario The Hamilton WALK for ALS takes place June 6 at Bayfront Park. The walk raises funds for equipment, support services and research into a cure. Thousands take part across Ontario, including the Culley family, who are now dealing with ALS.
