The AdHoc Group Against Crime, in collaboration with AIM4PEACE, FACE2FACE, MEET ME IN THE MIDDLE and YOUNG JUSTUS, will hold their 2nd annual New Year's Day prayer vigil & balloon release ceremony for families victimized by homicides.

The grand opening festivities will include Kettlebell and Zumba demonstrations, light refreshments as well as door prizes and free raffle giveaways. Olympic Gold Medalist Jackie Joyner Kersee will also be on hand for a meet and greet.

A pair of whimsical letters, handwritten and with illustrations by the renowned American artist Thomas Hart Benton (1889-1975), are expected to be centerpiece lots in an auction slated for Saturday, Nov. 12, by Dirk Soulis Auctions in Lone Jack, Mo.

The 63rd Annual Halloween Parade will be October 29, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. Please notice the time change. The Independence Chamber of Commerce will hold the event on the historic Independence square, located in downtown Independence.
